  • Question:

What is the best time to inseminate my cow when the first signs of heat/oestrus are observed ?

  • Expert's Opinion:

It is best to follow a simple A.M-P.M rule to get the maximum results. Animals observed exhibiting first signs of heat/oestrus in morning hours (A.M.) should be inseminated on the same day in the evening (P.M.). Whereas, animals noticed exhibiting first signs of heat/oestrus in the evening (P.M.) should be inseminated the next morning (A.M.).

  • Question:

Which dairy cattle breeds should be considered for breeding the indigenous cattle, to produce better milk yielding progeny?

  • Expert's Opinion:

A choice of exotic cattle breeds like Jersey and Holstein Friesian is available if you wish to go for crossbreeding. The exotic blood level amongst the crossbred progeny can be maintained up to 50%. Even upgrading with good indigenous milch breeds like Sahiwal, Gir and Tharparkar can produce high milk yielding progeny.
